Four gay men, some of them transvestites, were arrested on October 23 in a park of the Jordanian capital city of Amman, the gay French magazine Têtu recently reported.
The military governor of Amman, Saad Manasir is waging a campaign against the LGBT community, according to the magazine. On several occasions he has expressed his desire to put an end to the “propagation of depravation” by using tactics of repression.
According to Al-Ghad (http://www.alghad.jo/?news=370031 ), a daily Jordanian paper that keeps strong ties with the monarchic power, the four men had been placed in solitary confinement in order to avoid the “spread of contagious sexual diseases” within its penitentiary institution. Al-Ghad also suggests that the four be submitted to a psychiatric exam in order to find out what might have caused their “sexual anomaly.” The paper supports the repression campaign until “morale” is reestablished.
Homosexuality has been legal in the Jordanian kingdom since 1951, but the mainly Muslim population usually shows virulent opposition against it. No civil rights legislation exists to protect LGBTs in the country, and the local LGBT associations are weak when they even exist. (Thibault Chareton, The Advocate)

POLICE BUST GAY PARTY, DETAIN ABOUT 70 MEN WEARING JUST A TOWEL
BUTTERWORTH, Nov 2 (Bernama)
The humble bathroom towel was the 'theme' of the three parties meant exclusively for men.
As it turned out, most of the 70 men who turned up to have fun and frolick with one another, wore just a towel, and nothing else.
The guests, including a foreigner, were allegedly participating in a 'gay party' meant exclusively for homosexuals.
Thus, the police were not amused when they raided the entertainment centre in Jalan Perai Jaya and the massage parlours in Pulau Tikus to find the men frolicking with their male partners, clad only in towels.
They found used and unused condoms scattered on the floor as they rounded up 73 suspected homosexuals in the three separate raids between 5pm and 8.30pm.
A police spokesman told Bernama today that the suspects aged between 20 and 50, were detained to facilitate investigations under Section 377D of the Penal Code for gross indecency.
He said the police were in the midst of tracking down the owner of the entertainment centre who was suspected to have held regular 'gay parties' at the premise
