Jack Slomovits (b. USA, 1969) Born in Miami and raised in Los Angeles, Jack Slomovits picked up his first camera at the age of six, an Eastman Kodak "Brownie." Throughout high school and college, he won several fine art, photography and film-making awards and a scholarship to study at Parsons. In 1991 he moved to New York City to study photography at Fordham University and.learned the "trade" while working at a major New York film lab. Growing up in the 80’s and maturing sexually in an age of AIDS, Jack’s lust for adventure was tempered by his fear and awareness of the disease. He experimented as far as his own boundaries for safe play would allow, and became conscious of how much fantasy dictates the reality of eroticism. By merging his sexual energy as a young man and his art, the camera replaced the condom and has become his wand of control. Jack Slomovits is a Commercial Photographer and Visual Artist. His work is exhibited in art galleries across the country and his commercial images are in print ads and trade-publications internationally. In 1998, Slomovits expanded into documenting weddings in his signature style; Candid and spontaneous. Specializing in photojournalism, I pay attention to my subjects by observing and getting to know them from a distance, picking up hints about their next smile or move. My style is for those who appreciate something different and unique. Jack Slomovits' brings an element of spontaneity and surprise to his images and is for those who appreciate something unique. In 1999, he and his life partner, writer, Sean Meriwether, launched BLOWSQUISH, a design and internet company. As a creative couple, they have produced successful advertisements in print (as seen in Modern Bride, Locations, Time Out New York and HX Magazine) and on the internet for their clients. Since its inception, Blowsquish has developed and created over 50 websites. In 2000, Jack Slomovits photographed the very first Gay and Lesbian Lifestyles stock image collection for Digital Vision UK, comprised of only gay and lesbian models. While one company produced a series the year before, the production incorporated straight models playing gay roles – that collection was shot down by the advertising community for looking fake. “Gay Lifestyles,” as the CD collection is titled is comprised of 106 color and black and white images depicting gay and lesbian singles and couples in ordinary daily activities from social settings to private and intimate situations.
