Paul Freeman is an international award winning photographer, both for his commercial photography and his portraiture. Since the mid nineties, when his black and white art nude portraits of footballer Ian Roberts created a sensation in the inaugural issue of blue magazine, his celebrity nude portraits have appeared regularly in exhibitions, advertisements, and publications worldwide. Commissioned regularly by publications such as Interview, black and white and blue, his Olympic portraits are featured in black and white's books The Sydney Dream (2000)and The Athen's Dream (2004). He also wrote the best selling sports biography 'Ian Roberts: Finding Out', published by Random House in 1997.
His solo exhibition's have included Body Of Work, Taylor Square , Sydney, 1997, Olympiad, featuring his portraits of Olympic athletes, Byron Mapp Gallery, Sydney, 2000, Michael Klim Collection, produced by Gillette/Braun, Chifley Towers, Sydney, and the Melbourne Aquatic Centre, 2001, and Water And Sport , The Australian Maritime Museum, 2002. Group shows include The 25th Anniversary Exhibition at The Australian Centre For Photography, Paddington, 2001, and the Australian National Portrait Prize exhibition, Art Gallery of New South Wales 2004.
Paul established his publishing business in 2003 and released the art photo book Bondi Classic, a collection of his nude portraits of Australian Olympians, sportsmen, actors and models, which was distributed and received critical acclaim worldwide. Bondi Urban and Bondi Work followed in 2005 and 2006.
His career is featured in New York Times art critic Robert Hughes' documentary series on Australia, 'Beyond The Fatal Shore'.
