"To be a woman is to be an actress. Being feminine is a kind of theatre, with its appropriate costumes , decor, lightning , and stylized gestures"
Susan Sontag
I have been talking photographs for many years and talking photographs of myself for about three. The starting point for my photos is the guestion: “Is there a tragedy in the modern world which can be used for commercial purposes?”
As far as i am cocncerned a tragedy which may be used for this purposes is the concealment of one’s true feelings. This does not mean that i want to be a woman at all costs: all i really want is to show that by photographs myself i can be beautiful for at least a moment. But the beauty contained in my portraits is merely a play of light and shadow...and i decide whether in the given situation i will be beautiful or ugly.
Art is based on the premise that it firces people to think and assists them in discovering the truth about themselves. Are my photographs shocking , are they unigue? I do not know , but i want them to be a slap on the cheek and to show the extent to which people are embroiled in the outside world which imposes norms and restrictions , a world which regularly categorises people and phenomena and which is always egually intolerant.
All i want to do is to open people’s minds and to tell them that on this planet there is room for everyone. Each person is different and unigue and is necessary to give oneself the chance to bring their inner beauty to the surface. And it does not matter how this is accomplished: in a photograph, a painting , a page from a diary or any other form of expressing oneself. What counts is giving oneself the chance to try.
