Director Roberto Cuzillo examines the plight of homosexual couples seeking to have children from a cycle-of-life standpoint in this compassionate drama centering on the experiences of a lesbian couple seeking to skirt Italian laws that prohibit them from starting a family of their own. Guilia and Chiara are a committed couple in a long-term relationship. Though they long to start a family like anyone other loving couple in their position, Italian law dictates that only heterosexual couples are permitted to procreate by means of artificial insemination. Recognizing that their only hope for starting a family is to travel to Holland and having the procedure carried out abroad, Guilia and Chiara eagerly await the doctor's telephone call that will mark the beginning of their incredible journey towards parenthood. But while Guilia's mother is visibly distraught over the fact that her grandchild will be raised in a home without a father, an even more serious development occurs when Chiara discovers a small lump in her breast. Now forced to consider the prospect of death and dying just as she was about to bring a new life into the world, Chiara keeps her condition a secret from Guilia for fear of the repercussions it will have on their relationship. As a result, the once unbreakable bond between the couple is soon put to the ultimate test.
