The 23rd of June 2007 will be the day! Christopher Street Day will move through Berlin`s streets, transforming the route between "Kurfürstendamm" and "Siegessäule" into a place of queer encountering. Hundreds of thousands of gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgenders will demonstrate before the very eyes of their heterosexual fellow men for equal rights.
„Anti-discrimination / world of employment“ is the leading theme for the CSD 2007. „Diversity seeking work " the adequate motto.
After lenghty discussions the motto for 2007 was found: "Diversity seeking work". This was the decision of the public CSD-forum on 15th February after a multi-level casting of votes. The motto "Diversity seeking work" will emotionalize and make the role of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders in the working life a subject of discussion.
Pride Week 2007
For three years now "Pride Week" has been clasping the days around Christopher Street Day in Berlin.
While in previous years "Pride Week" started with the "Gay and Lesbian Street Fair", this year`s festivities will start off with the "Respect Gaymes" on 9th June 2007. The "Gay and Lesbian Street Fair", traditionally organized by the Regenbodenfond ("
Rainbow Foundation"), will take place on 16th and 17th June. "Pride Week" itself will continue on through Sunday after the big parade.
Equal Rights for the Unequal
Under the slogan »Equal Rights for the Unequal«, Berlin´s Rainbow Fund will present its fifteenth annual Lesbian and Gay Festival - Europe's largest - this coming June, over the weekend of the 16th and 17th 2007. As usual, it´s being held in the traditional gay stomping ground around Nollendorfplatz in Schöneberg. The festival will take place in the area bounded by
Motzstrasse, Eisenacher Strasse, Fuggerstrasse and Kalckreuthstrasse, spreading over 25,000 square meters, and featuring the Worlds of Sports, Radio, Words, Film, AIDS and Politics, as well as other exhibits from a wide range of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender groups. Along with dozens of information booths and market stalls, there will be a varied range of culinary treats. And on both days of the festival, there will be five high-energy performance venues: »The Connection« with house and techno music, the »Disco Ball« with hits of the 70s and 80s, the »Queer Media«, a mix of lesbian and gay entertainers and DJs, as well as the »Women´s Showcase«. Again this year the high point of the festival will be the Personality Interview Show, »Das wilde Sofa« (The Wild Sofa), taking place on the Main Stage at the corner of Eisenacher Strasse and Fuggerstrasse. Between three and four each afternoon, Gerhard Hoffmann and Biggy van Blond will put guests from politics and culture through the meat grinder for the delight of all. Following »The Wild Sofa« on Saturday, there will be a varied programme of rock and pop until 11 pm, and on Sunday until 10 pm.
With more than 350,000 guests expected over the weekend, the festival´s beer gardens, cocktail bars, stages and dance floors will turn the area around Nollendorfplatz into Berlin´s favourite party quarter. From 11 in the morning to late in the night on July 15th and 16th, it will be »Come to the Cabaret«.
Gay Night at the Zoo
The highly successful lesbian and gay Swing-Party will again take place in Berlin´s world-renowned Zoo on Wednesday, June 20th 2007. Entry is from 7 pm at the landmark Elephant Gate in Budapester Strasse. From 8.30 pm it will be song and swing amongst the elephants, tigers and penguins with Luci van Org and the 50-strong Big Band of the Berlin Transport Company. Gerhard Hoffmann and Biggy van Blond will host the evening. After the concert until the end of the evening, DJs will provide the ultimate in dance music. And to satisfy hunger and thirst there will be a variety of food and drink all over the place, by the penguins to a lamp-lit terrace.
